Our Parish Council covers a large area,
one of the biggest parishes in Shropshire. The Parish boundary stretches from
the Llysty in the east to Priors Holt on the Longmynd in the west including
Acton, Brockton, Choulton, Plowden, Eyton, and of course Lydbury North itself.
The Parish Council is the first tier of
local government, they provide very local services, e.g. bus shelters, play
areas, grass cutting of verges etc.
Councillors are elected by local
people to stand for 4 years at a time. The Councillors choose a chairperson each
year.

Bowen Born on Anglesey in 1942, the daughter of a farmer. I was one of the first volunteers in the Community Shop and acted as Secretary to the Parish Plan Steering Group. Being very committed to local democracy (preferably without the politics) I believe that the Parish Council is important. Before we came here I worked as a Social Worker, latterly inspecting care homes. Now, with my daughter Rachel, I run the Art & Design bookshop in Bishop’s Castle. |
